Interesting! Best
Will there be another "How (insert a country) defeated China II" documentary soon?
Well not so soon but may be in 5-6 years time or 10?

Let's hope we won't have to wait too long Happy

Currently other than Germany, I think maybe hard for other countries to challenge China's dominance in near future.

I think France, Japan, or maybe Korea have good potential juniors. They might be able to pose some serious challenges in few years time.

Those four countries you mentioned may pose some problems to China in future. They have some really good upcoming young players. Whether or not these young players can help their countries end China's dominance only time will tell.

The breakthrough is the single event.
China team is too strong n it will continue to dominate all team event.

It is the same when Sweden dominates the TT world during the late 80s n China is at the dark side, chinese breakthrough point is Double Event.

It nothing wrong for a country to dominate the TT world .
But it is wrong for a country to dominate if skill is not involve.

Good player not necessary a champion.
But champion is always a good player.

it was this 1989 defeat by Sweden that triggered the Chinese power house to higher achievements with lots of soul searching .

After watching the video clip , i have a few observations :

the chinese closed table penhold grip was losing its stronghold in table tennis , it was almost Sunset for the single rubber , backhand style play .....as the shakehand style by the swedes produces stronger , more powerful spins at mid table put ting severe pressure that finally nailed the Chinese as they forced the chinese to multiple errors . Although the chinese had amongst them the handshake player , they were still not as powerful as the Swedes then .

After the 89 defeat , China produces the c-pen RPB, first seen by Liu GuoLiang..., across China as Millions of player population engaged in the new adopted shakehand style , the chinese brought their adopted style of play to the door steps of the Eyropeans and ultimately reducing these European players to minnows in the World of Table Tennis .

Despite China's " Breeding of Wolves" plan it had yet to breed any Wolf fierce enough . The Answer is simple, unless we see a country with enough critical mass in Table tennis population like China , it may need a change in regulation / a new invention / a new style to upset the current Chinese domination in pingpong .

It took the J-Pen c/w smooth rubber to offset the then British shakehand no-rubber era

It took the all round European handshake to offset the J-pen, C-pen ,backhand close table style dominance.

It took the C-pen , RPB style to override the European handshake, J-pen ..... tho not completely.....

maybe, someday , a new method of playing style / or maybe a bigger ball may change the way pingpong has been played !
