Parliament approval of the " Lemon Laws " in March 2012 , To protect consumers against sales defects of items sold , how do you see this move.......... ? It will ensure all goods sold are of sound quality.. at least 6 mths warranty .It applies to all consumables and perishables excluding services ...

Will it drive up all consumer item prices .... ?
Sellers will be wary of selling cheap but poor quality stuffs so
meaning consumers will have no access to cheaper choices , but to pay for higher quality products at a higher cost .....

The case would be quite obvious in car spare parts ...parts from Thailand/PRC/ROC would cost a lot cheaper but lower/poorer quality...
With the new law , suppliers will be discouraged to provide this alternative ....Originals/OEMs can be costly ...

So is it Good or No Good ?
like to hear your views ?

It's about time the protection for the consumers is on the up! I believe this 'lemon law' is 'common' in other countries.

Singapore Wikipedia Information
A similar "Lemon Law" was passed in Singapore
parliament on September 1, 2012 to strengthen consumer protection in
Singapore. The Lemon Law applies to all goods (including consumables and
perishables
) but it does not apply to services.

Under the law, consumers can report a defective item within six
months of delivery and it is the responsibility of the retailer to prove
that the defect did not exist at the time of delivery. The consumer may
have the option
to request for repair or a replacement, and if that is
not possible, ask for a reduction in price, or even a refund.

One day after I parked my car at Geylang Lorong 33,I went to buy some durians.Picked a couple and ask the vendor to open so I can view ,check them and finally paid for five durians. Alles Goed , so I went back to the car park hurriedly wanting to eat them.

I discovered that half of the durians i bought were non edible because they were too hard or tasteless ,so I went back to the hawker and asked for replacement. He looked at the durians and shouted:You buy 5 for $10 you want the sky.Go go go.!!!he yelled to my embarrassment.

You think Lemon Laws could be applied here???Underlined words very misleading.

To be fair, 5 Durian for $10 cannot complain lah......
I normally buy 1 for $10 to be safe.
Eat less but fill shiok better than eat lots but feel angry.
But I do sympathize with you that you were being shouted at.
But dealing with hawkers that only speak hokkien, what can we expect?

Not siding with the vendor lah. Just giving a suggestion. We can always make use of something not so good & turn it into something better.

You are right. I am Cantonese but I speak lots of Hokkien and mix very well with Hokkien. I got nothing against them. But each time I got abused verbally in the market or hawker center, after a while, I realize that's how they normally communicate with one another every day. It's their way of life......so I live with it.
